Straight answers to the questions flatbed drivers ask most about tarps, sizing and buying through Global Cargo Control.
Flatbed tarp basics
What size flatbed tarp do I need?
Width is usually 16–24 ft to cover an 8.5 ft deck plus the drop on both sides; length is 20–27 ft per tarp. Measure the load height to choose the drop (4, 6 or 8 ft are most common) and use two tarps for a full 48–53 ft trailer.
What is the difference between a lumber tarp and a steel tarp?
A lumber tarp has a long drop (6–8 ft) and a tail flap for tall loads. A steel tarp has a short drop (3–4 ft) for low, heavy loads such as steel, pipe and rebar, and is often made from heavier 18–22 oz vinyl.
Are vinyl flatbed tarps waterproof?
Yes. Coated vinyl tarps with heat-sealed seams are waterproof and UV-resistant. Rain flaps over the D-ring rows and tight strapping keep wind-driven water out.
How much does a flatbed tarp weigh?
A 24' × 27' 18 oz lumber tarp weighs roughly 110–120 lbs. Lightweight 14 oz or parachute-fabric versions of the same size weigh about 50–90 lbs.

Do you sell the tarps yourselves?
