About Flatbed Tarps
Flatbed tarps keep freight dry, clean and legally secured from pickup to delivery. Choosing the right one comes down to three things: the shape of your load, the drop (how far the tarp hangs down the side), and the fabric weight you are willing to throw over your head at a truck stop. This catalogue groups every tarp style by the freight it is built for, lists every size and color option with current US pricing, and links you straight to the seller to buy.
- Lumber, steel, coil, machinery, smoke, bee and lightweight tarps
- Sizes from small 8' × 10' smoke tarps to 24' × 52' 3-piece lumber sets
- 10 oz – 22 oz vinyl, plus ultralight parachute (airbag) fabric
- Prices shown in USD with every size and color option side-by-side
How to choose flatbed tarps
- Match the tarp to the load. Tall, square stacks (lumber, building materials) need a lumber tarp with a long drop. Low, uneven loads (steel, pipe, rebar) need a steel tarp with a shorter drop. Steel coils get a coil tarp or coil bag; tall equipment gets a machinery tarp.
- Measure the drop. Measure from the deck to the top of the load. Your tarp's drop should equal or slightly exceed that height so the sides reach the deck and can be strapped down at the D-rings.
- Pick the fabric weight. 18 oz vinyl is the all-round standard. 14–15 oz and parachute fabric save 30–50% of the weight for drivers who tarp every day. 22 oz is for abrasive, sharp-edged freight.
Flatbed Tarps FAQ
What size flatbed tarp do I need?
Width is usually 16–24 ft to cover an 8.5 ft deck plus the drop on both sides; length is 20–27 ft per tarp. Measure the load height to choose the drop (4, 6 or 8 ft are most common) and use two tarps for a full 48–53 ft trailer.
What is the difference between a lumber tarp and a steel tarp?
A lumber tarp has a long drop (6–8 ft) and a tail flap for tall loads. A steel tarp has a short drop (3–4 ft) for low, heavy loads such as steel, pipe and rebar, and is often made from heavier 18–22 oz vinyl.
Are vinyl flatbed tarps waterproof?
Yes. Coated vinyl tarps with heat-sealed seams are waterproof and UV-resistant. Rain flaps over the D-ring rows and tight strapping keep wind-driven water out.
How much does a flatbed tarp weigh?
A 24' × 27' 18 oz lumber tarp weighs roughly 110–120 lbs. Lightweight 14 oz or parachute-fabric versions of the same size weigh about 50–90 lbs.
