About Cargo Control

Cargo control is everything that keeps a load where it belongs: ratchet and winch straps, transport chains and binders, edge protectors, e-track and logistic straps, load bars and dunnage. In the US, flatbed and van loads must meet FMCSA cargo securement rules, which set minimum aggregate working load limits and tie-down counts. This section lists every strap width, length, chain grade and fitting with prices, so you can build a compliant kit quickly.

  • Ratchet, winch and logistic straps in 1"–4" widths
  • Grade 70 transport chain and binders
  • Corner and edge protectors, e-track and load bars
  • Working load limits listed for each item

What you will find here

This section lists 1125 cargo control across 16 sub-categories (Bungee Straps, Cargo Net, Corner & Edge Protectors, D-Rings and Tie Down Anchor Points, Double-Decking Beam System, E-Track System, Chains & Binders, Kinedyne Straps). Prices currently range from $0.99 to $7,215.99 in US dollars, and every product page shows the complete table of sizes and options so you can compare without clicking through each listing.

Common uses

Buyers use cargo control for flatbed, step deck and van load securement, owner-operators building a DOT-compliant kit and replacing worn or out-of-service tie-downs. Add up the working load limit of every tie-down: under FMCSA rules the total must be at least half the weight of the cargo.

How to choose cargo control

Pick the width and rating first: add up the WLL of every strap so the total is at least half the cargo weight, then choose an end fitting that matches your anchor points. Use edge protectors where webbing crosses sharp corners.

Working load limits in this section run from 1.4 Ton to 22,600 lbs. Use the working load limit — never the breaking strength — when you plan a load.

Three steps to the right choice

  1. Check the working load limit. Use the WLL printed on the tag, not the break strength, when planning securement.
  2. Pick the right end fitting. Flat hooks suit flatbed rub rails, wire hooks and snap hooks suit D-rings, and e-track fittings suit vans.
  3. Protect the strap. Use edge protectors wherever webbing crosses a sharp edge.

Materials compared

  • Steel (253 products) — Steel offers high strength and abrasion resistance; check the finish for rust protection.
  • Polyester (146 products) — Polyester webbing has low stretch, holds tension well and resists UV and moisture — the standard for tie-down and lifting straps.
  • Aluminum (55 products) — Aluminum is light and corrosion-resistant, which makes it easy to handle and install.
  • Polyester Webbing (28 products) — Polyester webbing has low stretch, holds tension well and resists UV and moisture — the standard for tie-down and lifting straps.
  • Alloy Steel (20 products) — Heat-treated alloy steel gives high strength for its size and is the material used for rated lifting chain and hardware.

Before you buy

  • Add up the working load limits of all tie-downs against the cargo weight.
  • Check that the end fitting matches the anchor points on your trailer.
  • Make sure the length reaches over the load with tail left to tension.

Price guide

Starting prices in this section break down as follows: 350 products under $25; 323 products $25 to $100; 396 products $100 to $500; 56 products over $500. 1115 of 1125 products currently have at least one option in stock at the retailer. Safety and care

  • Inspect webbing before each use and retire straps with cuts, burns, melted fibres or damaged hardware.
  • Keep the ratchet handle closed and locked after tensioning, and re-check tension at your first stop.
  • Never exceed the working load limit printed on the tag.

Cargo Control FAQ

How many straps do I need for a flatbed load?

At least two for most loads, plus one more for every 10 ft of length beyond 10 ft, with combined working load limit at least half the cargo weight (FMCSA §393.106 and §393.110).

Winch strap or ratchet strap?

Winch straps tighten with a trailer-mounted winch and are faster on flatbeds; ratchet straps carry their own tensioner and work on any anchor point.

What grade chain is used for securing cargo?

Grade 70 transport chain is the standard for cargo securement; Grade 80 and 100 alloy chain are for overhead lifting and heavy-duty securement.

What is the difference between WLL and break strength?

Break strength is where the strap fails; WLL is the rated safe working load, usually one third of break strength for web tie-downs.
