How to choose the right rigging hardware
Match the hook to the chain size and grade, and check the throat opening fits your fittings. Grab hooks hold a chain link; slip and clevis hooks suit other hardware.
Specifications explained
- Working load limit (WLL): 8 Ton — the maximum load the item is rated to carry in normal service. For cargo securement, the WLLs of all tie-downs on a load must add up to at least half the cargo weight (FMCSA 49 CFR 393.106).
- Surface finish: Powder Coated — the coating that protects the metal. Galvanized and zinc finishes resist rust; powder coat adds a tough painted layer.
Before you buy
- Match chain size and grade to the binders and hooks you already use.
- Confirm the working load limit covers your share of the cargo weight.
- Measure the length needed to reach anchor points on both sides.
Safety and care
- Do not tip-load a hook; the load should sit in the bowl.
- Use hooks with latches where the load could unhook.
- Replace hooks with a widened throat or twisting.
To complete your setup, many buyers also look at g70 transport chains, shackles and ratchet chain binders — see the suggestions below.
