How to choose the right ratchet chain binder
Match the binder to your chain size and grade. Ratchet binders tension gradually with less kickback; lever binders are quicker but store more energy in the handle.
Specifications explained
- Working load limit (WLL): 7,100 lbs — the maximum load the item is rated to carry in normal service. For cargo securement, the WLLs of all tie-downs on a load must add up to at least half the cargo weight (FMCSA 49 CFR 393.106).
- Breaking strength: 21,300 lbs — the force at which the item fails in testing. It is not a working rating — always plan with the WLL, which is set well below breaking strength.
- End fitting: Grab, Sling Hook & Chain — the hardware at the end of the strap or chain. Match it to your anchor points — flat hooks for flatbed rub rails, wire or snap hooks for D-rings, grab hooks for chain, E-track fittings for E-track.
