How to choose the right 8 point tie down straps & kit
Pick the width and rating first: add up the WLL of every strap so the total is at least half the cargo weight, then choose an end fitting that matches your anchor points. Use edge protectors where webbing crosses sharp corners.
Specifications explained
- Working load limit (WLL): 22,000 lbs — the maximum load the item is rated to carry in normal service. For cargo securement, the WLLs of all tie-downs on a load must add up to at least half the cargo weight (FMCSA 49 CFR 393.106).
- Thickness: 3/5″ — thicker material resists abrasion and cutting better but adds weight.
- Strap width: 2 Inch — wider webbing generally carries a higher rating and spreads pressure over more of the load.
- Material: High Tenacity Polyester — Polyester webbing has low stretch, holds tension well and resists UV and moisture — the standard for tie-down and lifting straps.
Before you buy
- Add up the working load limits of all tie-downs against the cargo weight.
- Check that the end fitting matches the anchor points on your trailer.
- Make sure the length reaches over the load with tail left to tension.
Safety and care
- Inspect webbing before each use and retire straps with cuts, burns, melted fibres or damaged hardware.
- Keep the ratchet handle closed and locked after tensioning, and re-check tension at your first stop.
- Never exceed the working load limit printed on the tag.
